A visa to Russia for citizens of Egypt

If you are an Egyptian citizen and want to travel to Russia, you need to know certain things before you start planning your trip. First and foremost – all Egyptian citizens need a visa to enter Russia (unless, of course, you are a member of some official diplomatic mission). To enter as a tourist, to visit your family or friends, to do business in Russia, study or work, for various purposes there exist various visa types. A process of getting a visa looks quite complicated and time-consuming, this article will help you find your way through the bureaucratic procedures and successfully obtain your Russian visa. Follow the steps described below:

Step 1. Choose your visa type in accordance with the purpose of your trip.

A new law No 23235 on visa types was introduced in Russia on 21.12.2020. According to it the main types include:

Humanitarian visa30 -90 days (a visa can be issued for up to 1 year with stay no longer than 90 days in each 180)
For trips with political, religious, sport, charitable, scientific, cultural visits, as well as members of youth exchange programs 
Transit visa3 -10 dayscrossing Russian territory on your way to another country
Student visa90 days and abovestudying a course in a Russian school or university
Work visa90 days and aboveworking under a contract for a Russian employer; working as a domestic employee; accompanying member of family of an employee; installation and maintenance workers 

Choose the type corresponding to your travel purposes and the time you intend to spend in Russia and go on to collect the required documents for your visa application process.

Step 2. Collect the visa invitation and the rest of documents for your visa

The list of documents for a visa application includes the main documents and some additional ones depending on the purpose of your trip.

  • Your valid passport (make sure it’s valid not less than 6 months after the expiration date of the visa you intend to obtain, and that it has minimum 2 blank visa designated pages)
  • 2 recent color photos of yourself sized 3.5×4.5. Please, avoid wearing head coverings unless you appear in them on your passport photo
  • completed visa application form from the portal of visa.kdmid.ru/  Carefully fill it in in English or Russian, print, date and sign

  • Original confirmation from the registered Russia travel agency (voucher)
  • Paid flight tickets to and from Russia
  • Hotel booking confirmation
  • Bank account statement
  • Employment verification statement; or a certificate from the Register of Individual Entrepreneurs

  • An official invitation issued by the MIA of Russia upon request of a Russian host in original or electronic form

  • Bank account statement
  • Employment verification statement; or a certificate from the Register of Individual Entrepreneurs

  • An official invitation issued by the MIA of Russia upon request of a Russian employer in original
  • HIV-negative certificate. You can take a test in any clinic in Egypt. The certificate is valid for 3 months since the issuance date.

  • An official invitation issued by the MIA of Russia upon request of a Russian educational institution in original or electronic form

  • Bought tickets for the entire route through Russia to the country of final destination
  • Valid visa to the country of final destination (if required)

After you have chosen the visa type you need and collected the required documents, you can make an appointment and submit your visa application at the authorized organ. Read on to know the details.

Step 3. Apply your documents for a Russian visa in Egypt

Citizens of Egypt are allowed to apply for a Russian visa at the Russian consulate department in Cairo. See the contact details here: Russian Consulate in Egypt

When you arrive in person at the Consulate with a set of prepared documents for your visa, take an electronic ticket in the waiting line and submit everything to the consular officer when your turn comes.

After you apply your documents and pay the state fees, you will be informed on the date of the issuance of your visa and given a statement of the acceptance of your documents. You’ll need to leave the original of your passport at the consulate for the processing period. 

Step 4. Get your passport back and check your visa

After you get notified, collect your passport and carefully check your visa details.

If all information is correct, you can start getting ready for your trip.

ATTENTION PANDEMIC

Please, make sure you take the PCR test not earlier than 72 hours before your trip. After you arrive to Russia, you will need to retake the PCR test within 3 days from arrival. Until then you are recommended to stay in self-isolation. 

Step 5. Arrive to Russia and get registered

After you arrive to Russia you’ll have to get registered at the place of your actual stay within 7 working days. Contact the owner of your apartment in advance to make sure he will be able to have you registered at the local migration service office. See how the registration slip looks like below. Please, make sure you leave the country before the expiration of your visa. Short-term visas cannot be extended on the territory of Russia – you’ll have to apply for a new one from your country of citizenship or residence. If you possess a long-term visa (student or work type), you will be able to extend it without the necessity to leave Russia if your presence in Russia will be necessary for a longer term under the contract.
